Robert Scanlon MBA - Executive Director Bob became HDC Executive Director in May, 2005. Prior to HDC, Bob was the Area Director of Manufacturing for American Red Cross Biomedical Services for the Western United States; serving with the American Red Cross Biomedical Services for over ten years. Bob graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He has a Masters of Business Administration from Northwest Nazarene University. Bob also served as an Infantry Officer with the United States Marine Corps, serving in Honduras, Panama, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Bob is a member of the American Diabetes Association, American College of Healthcare Administrators, American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society for Aging.

Judy Davis RN, CDE - Program Director Recruited from the Spokane Diabetes Center in 1987, Judy moved to Boise to develop a diabetes education department for Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. She has been the driving force behind the Center ever since. She is responsible for the hiring and training of all education staff and for leading the development of all education curriculum. She specializes in educating newly diagnosed type 1 children and their families, working with vision impaired patients, and utilizes continuous glucose sensors to help patients identify blood glucose problems.

Richard Christensen MD - HDC Medical Director Dr. Christensen is a private practice endocrinologist and has been HDC's Medical Director since 1998. Dr. Christensen graduated with his medical degree from the College of Georgia and conducted his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals. Not only is Dr. Christensen passionate about helping patients learn to effectively self-manage their diabetes, but he is also actively involved in diabetes research aimed at finding new medications and treatment options for diabetes. In addition, he is the Medical Director for Camp Hodia, a local camp for children with type 1 diabetes in Idaho.

Sue Iwasa RN, CDE - Nurse Manager Sue has been with HDC since 1990. She has type 1 diabetes and wears an insulin pump and is one of the Center's insulin pump trainers. Sue is also very involved in organizing Sweet Kids Day Camp, the Center's 3-day summer camp for children ages 3-7 with type 1 diabetes.

Julie Walker RD, CDE - Dietitian Manager Julie was recruited as the first dietitian for the Center in 1988, and continues to provide diabetes education and training for HDC patients. Julie is certified in adult weight management and was instrumental in developing HDC's Choose to Lose weight loss program.

Jeannee Diaz RD, CDE Jeannee has been with HDC since 1994. She is the director for the Center's Sweet Kids Day Camp, a 3-day summer camp for children ages 3-7 with type 1 diabetes. She is also certified in pediatric weight management and works with the Center's Choose to Lose weight loss clients.

Jenifer McFarlane RN Hired in October 2005, Jeni is the Center's inpatient diabetes educator for Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke's Regional Medical Centers. Jeni has lived with type 1 diabetes for 23 years and wears an insulin pump.

Shirley Paul RN, CDE Shirley joined the HDC staff in 2000 and earned her CDE in 2003. She is one of the Center's certified insulin pump trainers. She also works with the Center's marketing department to provide updates on diabetes care and education for area health care professionals.

Vicki Graf RD, CDE Vicki returned to HDC in July 2007 after living in Moscow, Idaho for two years. With over 20 years experience as a dietitian, and 5 years as a Certified Diabetes Educator, Vicki brings a wealth of knowledge about food selections and diabetes management to her patients.

Gene Phelps RN, CDE Gene was hired in July 2007. A Registered Nurse since 1994 and a certified diabetes educator since 2004, Gene draws on his years of experience to encourage and assist newly diagnosed patients towards better diabetes management. He especially enjoys working with the Center's geriatric population.

Reta Sutton RN, CDE Reta joined HDC in 2000. She has over 10 years experience as a diabetes educator. She specializes in foot care, and conducts foot care clinics for the Center several times each month.

Sherri Harris RN Joining HDC in 2006, Sherri is working towards sitting for the CDE exam in 2008. She is one of the Center's primary in-patient diabetes educators, working with patients at both Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke's Regional Medical Centers. She also works with patients on an out-patient basis, teaching classes at the Boise office.

Jeanette Germain Director of Development Jeanette has been writing grants, raising funds, and assisting with business development at Humphreys since 2001. She is particularly focused on support for children's services and prevention programs because of their lifesaving, lifelong impacts on individual and community health. She is currently coordinating a new chronic disease management initiative at the diabetes center. Jeanette has worked on staff and as a consultant for nonprofit organizations for more than 20 years. She holds a BA in communications from Stanford University.

Lisa Gonser Director of Marketing & Community Relations With HDC since 2000, Lisa is responsible for creating and implementing the Center's marketing plan. She is also actively involved with The Diabetes Ride, an equestrian event that raises money for HDC.

Betsy Koehler TrialNet Research Coordinator Since 2004, Betsy has been the Center's coordinator for the international diabetes research study, TrialNet. With her dedication, HDC is the number one recruiting site in the world for this study.

Rosalyn Palacios Executive Administrative Assistant Rosalyn joined HDC in 2000. She is an integral part of the education team, creating and maintaining all of HDC's educational power-point presentations and class workbooks.

Bonnie Parra RN, CCRC Bonnie joined the HDC research department in May, 2006. With eight years of previous clinical research experience, and a wonderful rapport with HDC clients, she has quickly helped grow the number of clinical trials held at the Center.

Kathi Moore Administrative Assistant Hired in January 2007, Kathi handles hundreds of calls each week, responding to both patient and health care professional inquiries about HDC services. She is also responsible for scheduling and coordinating patient visits to the Center.

Toni Soneff Administrative Assistant Toni joined the HDC team in February, 2007. Working with over 100 referred patients each week, Toni ensures that each patient is scheduled for the appropriate class or meets with the right educator for an individual consultation.

Karen Cloudt RN, CDE Karen joined HDC in the spring of 2007. She has over 30 years experience in nursing, and earned her CDE certification in 2002. She provides diabetes education both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Karen especially enjoys the creative aspect of educating patients, working with each individual to create a plan specifically for them.

Jenny Guivens RD Jenny was hired in August 2007. She has been a dietitian for over two years and has worked as a diabetes educator the entire time, working towards her CDE. Passionate about helping patients incorporate healthy eating and activity habits into their lifestyle, she is also certified in Adult Weight Management.
